HIST 4051 - American Civil War3 hours Prerequisites: HIST 1111 HIST 1112 HIST 2111 HIST 2112 . Must be a History major or minor or have permission of instructor. The course is a study of the causes leading up to the American Civil War, with particular emphasis on the growth of slavery, sectionalism, expansion of slavery and the movements west, and the tumultuous decade of the 1850s. The social and political events of secession, Lincoln’s election, and the actual outbreak of war will include a focused study of the five year conflict.
