General Education Curriculum (43 hours)

Courses Related to Program of Study (40 hours)


Lower Divison Required Courses (6 hours)


Select two 2000 level ENGL literature courses not taken under “Interpret Texts” in the general education curriculum.

Students may substitute any 3000/4000-level English courses with the exception of ENGL 3950 and 3951 for the required 2000-level courses in this section.

Upper Division Required Courses in the Major (16 semester hours)


All upper-level English courses must be passed with a grade of “C” or better to be applied towards graduation.

British Literature Course (3 hours)


 Select one course from ENGL courses numbered 3000-3199.

American Literature Course (3 hours)


  Select one course from ENGL courses numbered 3200-3299.

Additional Required Courses (10 hours)


Electives in the Major (18 semester hours)


Select six additional 3000-4000 level ENGL courses. With departmental approval, one of these six courses may be ENGL 3950 or ENGL 3951 (academic credit earned for an internship). Students wishing to pursue this option must receive departmental approval as well as follow the college’s application process for internships. Only an internship deemed equivalent to three hours of academic credit can be used as an upper-level elective in the major. 

General Electives (37 hours)


 A maximum of two PALS (Physically Active Life Skills) courses may be used as general electives.
