EDUC 5003 - Adolescent Development and Theories of Learning

This course will comprise a study of the major learning theories applied in today’s schools with emphasis on reading and interpreting empirical research. Topics such as the nature of learning processes for individuals and groups, motivation, intelligence, memory, cognition, and intellectual development as well as students’ developmental processes with regard to their cognitive, physical, emotional, moral, and social growth from early to late adolescence will be addressed. The content of this course will be integrated in order for students to understand how learner development and the educative process provide foundational knowledge for effective teacher decision-making. Current technology is used in class so students must have access to their own laptop computer and a LiveText Field Experience Edition license to complete course content. Students will be responsible for securing education sites for completing appropriate field experiences to accompany this course. Prerequisites: Admission to an MAT program.
