COMM 3010 - History and Theory of Rhetoric3 hours Prerequisites: COMM 2050 . Examines the historical and theoretical trajectories of rhetoric from classical antiquity to present day. Students will explore issues of writing, persuasion, ideology, agency, and culture. Theorists include Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Locke, Marx, Nietzsche, Burke, Perelman, Toulmin, and Derrida. Students will analyze, interpret and evaluate rhetorical theories in light of each other, as well as contemporary cultural phenomena.
