EDUC 5026 - Models and Methods for Teaching Life Science to Diverse Learners 3 hours Prerequisites: EDUC 5401 Co-requisite: EDUC 5402 This course prepares MAT candidates with a background in the liberal arts to design and deliver lessons and units of study for diverse adolescents through theoretically-informed models and methods for the teaching of biology and life sciences based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence. In addition to examining the nature of the discipline, foci include the candidate’s development of pedagogical content knowledge and reflective practice, questions of STEM equity and excellence, development of students’ scientific thinking strategies, and managing complex learning environments. In the accompanying professional lab, candidates begin a science-related action research study in the course. Prerequisites: Successful completion of EDUC 5401 Early Field Studies and professional pass level score on appropriate GACE
