SPAN 3200 - Spanish for Business & International Relations 3 hours Prerequisites: SPAN 3100 with a grade of “C-” or better. This course will introduce students, including those majoring in international business and other social sciences, to a specialized area of Spanish language study. Topics may vary according to student interest, but may include economics and finance, accounting, commerce and marketing, political science and international relations, sociology and social services. This course can also be taken as a study abroad elective in Spain or Latin America. We will learn the basic Hispanic vocabulary of commercial and legal practices, international negotiation and diplomacy, official correspondence, orders for merchandise, letters of credit, import-export permits, bills of lading, invoices, and other common instruments of international relations and commerce. The course is also designed for students who desire a career as technical translators from English into Spanish and vice versa. Previous background in business or international relations is helpful, but not required.
