Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides a comprehensive program of academic advising by working with department faculty throughout the student’s program of study.  The ASC further monitors student progress through a central reporting system and personal intervention when progress is in question.  This intervention may be in the form face-to-face or online tutoring via Webex technology, which the ASC provides at no charge, or academic counseling, where students are assisted with creating individual success plans, goal setting, time management, and study skills.  Success plans may include other services of the ASC, such as resume writing, interviewing, career planning, as well as use of a job board, all of which are offered in person and online. All ASC services are available to students taking courses via Distance Learning utilizing Webex technology, email, and telephone. Additional information can be found on the Academic Success Center website.

Student Disability Services

The College, through the Office of Disability Services, is committed to providing an environment in which all students have equal access to learn and work to their full potential in compliance with current federal laws and in keeping with the values of our institution.  Equal access to education is achieved when physical, informational, cultural, and attitudinal barriers are removed and students with disabilities are allowed to compete solely on the basis of their academic skills and abilities.  Disability Services, a department within Student Development, works to empower students by creating individualized accommodation plans with eligible students and by collaborating with campus partners to create an accessible education experience. All students who register with Disability Services have an Intake Meeting with the Assistant Director for Academic Support and Accommodation, and distance learners can have that meeting via Webex technology.  Disability Services documentation is processed electronically for all students, including distance learners.  Additional information can be found on the Student Disability Services website.

Institutional Review Board

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) assesses the ethical aspects of human subjects research proposed by students, faculty, and staff.  More specifically, the IRB ensures the benefits of the research outweigh the risks to the participants in that research, the participants are in no way deceived during the research process, and the participants indicate their informed consent to such research by signing (and/or having a parent or legal guardian sign) a suitable consent form. Students taking courses via Distance Learning will submit the IRB application via email to the IRB Chairperson, according to standard protocol.  The IRB Chairperson will oversee the review process and email the outcome to the student, also according to standard protocol.
