ARTS 1113 - Introduction to Global Christian Art

Credits: 3 hours
This class will survey Christian art and architecture from its origins in the third centmy CE to the present, including works produced in the Middle East, Europe, Ethiopia, Asia, and the Americas. The class will address the invention of Jesus’ appearance, icons and iconoclasm, religious architecture, the role of at1 in the Reformation, and the use of a11 by missionaries. The class will consider global themes -of empire and colonialism as well as changing theological debates.
