COMM 3420M - Gender, Race, and Media

Prerequisites: COMM 2050  with a grade of “C-” or better.
This course substantively engages critical/cultural concepts as they are produced and consumed in mediated contexts. In particular, students will learn the prominent ways media inform identity construction processes as it relates to gender, race, sexuality, culture, and class. Students will learn to interrogate and analyze media systems, artifacts, and discourses through critical/cultural inquiry which is keenly focused on exposing, comprehending, and dismantling the ideologies that perpetuate problematic imbalances of societal power.
