Methods Courses


Two areas of concentration must be chosen from the following 1) Language Arts, 2) Social Studies, 3) Mathematics, 4) Science. An area of concentration is defined as a minimum of fifteen (15) semester hours of course work and these hours may include the following methods courses associated with the concentration (e.g. EDUC 3015 Mathematics Education: Middle Grades Education ).

  • General Electives 1-2 hours 
  • Physically Active Life Skills (PALS) 2 hours 1

Total Hours for Graduation: 120


Note


 A maximum of two PALS (Physically Active Life Skills) courses may be used as general electives.

General Regulations


* Courses MUST be taken at Young Harris College even if similar or same courses have been taken elsewhere.

Certification students deemed deficient by the advisors in content courses may be required to remediate the deficiency (usually by taking additional content courses).

An overall 2.75 GPA on a 4.00 scale is the requirement for enrollment in block courses and for recommendation for teacher certification in Georgia.

Only grades of C or better are acceptable in certification courses and for recommendation for teacher certification in Georgia.

A passing score on the GACE Basic Skills test must be on file in the Office of Teacher Preparation before enrolling in the first set of block courses.

A passing score on the GACE MGE content test must be on file in the Office of Teacher Preparation before Young Harris College will recommend the candidate for certification.

All candidates will be required to complete field and clinical experiences within diverse settings including, but not limited to socioeconomic, exceptionalities, ethnic and racial backgrounds, students with special needs as well as English language learners.
