*Broad Field (Definition)
The program shall require a major or equivalent in one of the science specialty areas (Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Physics) and at least two additional areas of concentration from the previously defined content areas.
An area of concentration is defined as a minimum of fifteen semester hours of content that addresses the appropriate specialty area standards for Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, and Physics.
General Regulations
* For Education courses to be applied to the program of study they must be reviewed and approved by the Dean of the Division of Education.
Certification students deemed deficient by the advisors in content courses may be required to remediate the deficiency (usually by taking additional content courses).
An overall 2.75 GPA on a 4.00 scale is the requirement for enrollment in upper division required courses (3000 level or higher) and for recommendation for teacher certification in Georgia.
Only grades of B- or better are acceptable in certification courses and for recommendation for teacher certification in Georgia.
Students must be admitted to the Teacher Preparation Program prior to enrolling in upper division required courses (3000 level or higher)..
A passing score on the GACE Science content test must be on file in the Office of Teacher Preparation before Young Harris College will recommend the candidate for certification.
All candidates will be required to complete field and clinical experiences within diverse settings including, but not limited to socioeconomic, exceptionalities, ethnic and racial backgrounds, students with special needs as well as English language learners.
