ENGL 1101 - Composition I

The primary purpose of this course is to help students develop college-level writing skills. By encouraging students to explore multiple perspectives of a particular issue, belief, idea, value, and the like, this theme-based course also helps students recognize that there are many ways to view particular issues and encourages them to participate in the debate. This component of the course is designed to engage students by exposing them to the critical and comparative function of academic study—to teach them that college not only entails the acquisition of knowledge, but also the critical examination of the knowledge they acquire. The course also helps students learn that college requires active learning and inquiry that’s far different from what they experience in high school.
