HIST 4051 - American Civil War 3 hours The course is a study of the causes leading up to the American Civil War, with particular emphasis on the growth of slavery, sectionalism, expansion of slavery and the movements west, and the tumultuous decade of the 1850s. The social and political events of secession, Lincoln’s election, and the actual outbreak of war will include a focused study of the five year conflict.
