EDUC 5025 - Models and Methods for Teaching Math to Diverse Learners

Prerequisites: EDUC 5401
Co-requisite: EDUC 5402 This course prepares MAT candidates with a background in the liberal arts to design and deliver lessons and units of study for diverse adolescents through theoretically-informed models and methods for the teaching of mathematics based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence. In addition to the nature of the discipline, the curriculum includes exploring strategies for maintaining productive learning environments, developing and implementing effective instruction, instilling growth mindsets, and assessing students’ mathematical thinking. In the accompanying professional lab, candidates begin a math-related action research study in the course. Prerequisites: Successful completion of EDUC 5401 Early Field Studies and professional pass level score on appropriate GACE
